The practice of killing tigers under various pretexts has grown lately in Nepal.  Sometimes, tigers are killed out of anger for attacking people, while in other cases they are targeted in revenge after tigers eat their cattle and goats. The mentality of putting poison in the meat that tigers are likely to eat in an apparent bid to kill them also appears to be growing lately.

Nepal’s tourism industry seems to have bounced back with a notable number of foreigners arriving via air routes last month. According to Nepal Tourism Board (NTB), the number of foreign visitors in March surged by 28.90 percent compared to the same period of last year.

Transitional justice remains incomplete even after more than a decade and a half since the signing of the Comprehensive Peace Accord (CPA). The process has stagnated as efforts are made to enact a law providing immunity for heinous crimes against humanity during truth investigations. The leaders of major political parties often hold discussions on issues facing the country.

The 7th International Women Entrepreneurs Business Fair started in Lalitpur on Friday. Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal inaugurated the five-day fair organized by the Federation of Women Entrepreneurs Association of Nepal (FWEAN), an organization of women entrepreneurs across the country. With the slogan of eating and using domestic products to promote domestic entrepreneurship, the exhibition and sale of women's handicraft products, Dhaka and hand-made paper products, food dishes, agricultural products, herbs, jewelry and many other goods are showcased in the fair.

In a democratic country, the highest institution in which representatives are elected by the people is the Parliament. Its main task is to formulate necessary laws for the governance and administration of the country. Democratic countries are governed by laws, and these laws cannot be formulated by anyone other than the sovereign Parliament.

New Delhi and Washington appear to be squaring off for a fight over the U.S. expressing its concerns about the Modi government’s actions ahead of the general election. After the U.S. State Department spokesperson first made a comment on the arrest of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) summoned the acting Deputy Chief of the U.S. mission in Delhi and sternly called on the U.S. to desist from interfering in India’s internal affairs.

The ambitious Chinese cooperation program, the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), has been a much-discussed topic in Nepal for years, but progress in its implementation has been lacking. Each successive government in Nepal in the past few years appears reluctant to take the BRI to implementation, mainly due to the controversy surrounding it.

The government-owned hospitals are the primary choice for ordinary people in case they are taken ill. The main reasons behind this are affordable and quality treatment of diseases.  Yet, the dismal condition of the government-owned hospitals in the country compels ordinary citizens to seek treatment in private hospitals, where appointments with doctors are more readily available.

India's reported refusal to provide a subsidy of approximately Rs 17 billion for the construction of two petroleum pipelines and a fuel storage facility, as previously agreed between the two countries, has lately drawn media headlines.

A democratic country is never without a government. Even if a government steps down, its continued existence is to ensure there's no governance vacuum. In this manner, while individuals leading or residing within the government may change, the essence of governance remains constant. The continuity of government implies that each preceding administration's responsibilities also fall upon the succeeding one.
