Binod Raj Gyawali, chairman of Nepal Republic Media Limited, has been active in Nepali media industry for more than three decades. In his conversation with Republica, Gyawali shares his thoughts on various issues including the plan of Nepal Republic Media Limited to float its shares to the general public, possible consequences of this in Nepali media landscape and future prospects of media industry in general.

This particular crime falls under various laws, including those concerning organized crime, fraud, anti-money laundering, and the civil code. Charges of corruption against government officials who have accepted bribes can only be filed once the police investigation is concluded. Subsequently, the case can be referred to the CIAA. Furthermore, the police can initiate action in cases of money laundering involving the implicated individuals.

On transitional justice, we are very keen to see it brought to a good positive conclusion for the good of the nation. We are not by any means the only partner. I would say the entire international community is very interested and seeking to be supportive of what happens there. I think it is important to note, though, that from our perspective, it has to be Nepali-led; it has to be victim-centric and it has to be something that addresses the need and meets the high standards that are required to bring peace and settle a long term conflict in a way that is good for the nation as a whole.

'We can use the UAE as a special support for the economy of Nepal’

Nepal and the UAE established diplomatic relations in 1977. The bilateral cooperation between the two countries has since increased manifolds. While the UAE is the fourth largest trading partner of Nepal, this Middle Eastern nation is also one of the popular destinations of Nepali migrant workers. The two countries also share common views on significant global issues ranging from renewable energy, climate change to world peace and fight against terrorism both as a member of the United Nations and the Non-Aligned Movement at the multilateral level. Against this context, Republica's Kosh Raj Koirala talked to UAE Ambassador to Nepal, Saeed Hamdan Al Naqbi, to understand the current state of bilateral relations between Nepal and the UAE, potential areas of cooperation and ways to further promote bilateral relations between the two countries. UN Assistant Secretary General and UNDP Assistant Administrator Kanni Wignaraja is currently in Nepal to discuss UNDP's ongoing and future collaboration with the Government of Nepal, development partners and stakeholders to firmly anchor the UN agency's next Five-year Country Program (2023-2027). The UNDP’s Country Program aims at supporting Nepal to tackle the impacts of climate change and contribute to the long-term sustainable development of Nepal. On the sideline of her marathon meetings and other engagements, Republica's Kosh Raj Koirala talked to her to understand the UNDP's priorities, support measures for the countries that are hit hard by the impact of climate change and other concurrent issues that UNDP is working on. Nepal and the Philippines may be geographically far apart, but these two countries share many similarities that bring them together. Despite limited bilateral interactions, people to people relations between the two countries are already strong. As both the countries are largely agrarian-based economies and major sources of migrant workers for Gulf countries, they also share common issues and concerns at the regional and global levels. Republica talked to the Non-resident Ambassador of the Philippines to Nepal, Ramon S Bagatsing, Jr to understand the current state of the bilateral relations between Nepal and the Philippines, potential areas of mutually beneficial cooperation and ways to further enhance bilateral relations between the two countries.

As social media platforms have emerged as an important tool of election campaign, the EC equally faces a newer challenge to contain misinformation, disinformation and hate speech and ensure effective implementation of the election code of conduct this time.
