During the 1960s, Nepal experienced a significant decrease in its one-horned rhino population due to widespread poaching that brought them on the brink of extinction. Nonetheless, concerted efforts from various stakeholders including the Government, Nepalese Army, local communities, and several NGOs and INGOs have resulted in remarkable progress towards restoring their numbers.

As citizens, we rely on our government to make decisions that benefit society as a whole. But it’s no secret that government policies and decisions are often frustrating and perplexing. The government’s actions often seem to benefit only a select few. From tax hikes to confusing legislation, it can feel like the government is making things more difficult rather than easier!

About 15 years ago, I attended a management school in Lainchaur, located on the same avenue as the British and Indian embassies.One day, I encountered a problem. I had been writingout pieces of narratives when bored in class. Later I’d go home, type them out and email them. But then, someone - a family member - accidentally stepped on the laptop, damaging the screen, and leaving me undecided about whether to fix the screen or buy a new one. I mean Laptop prices were dropping like how rockstars drop dead from time to time.

The chilly weather of December had my classmates engage in chiya-talks at the nearest Khaja Ghar from our college. My curiosity got the best of me and within minutes I found myself being an audience to their "rajnitik guffs" (political chit-chat). The speakers were the enthusiastic boys from my batch who had read almost every politics related book, from BP Koirala's 'Aatma Britant' to Sudheer Sharma's 'Prayogshala'.

The 18th of February is observed as World Pangolin Day. However, most of us are still unaware of the existence of this unique and significant animal. So, what the heck is a pangolin? Aside from being shy and slow-moving creatures, guardians of precious natural resources to ecosystem engineers, these small creatures have an inevitable role to play on the planet – a very vital one!

It's a good thing that we have a wealth of "isms" – communism, Marxism, Leninism, Maoism, socialism, liberalism, capitalism etc - to choose from to solve poverty, because clearly, just one isn't enough!
