Despite all odds, there are also wonderful things that happened this year, some big and small, and remarkable factors contributing to making our world better, and we must acknowledge that. As 2021 is coming to an end, I am contemplating on valuable learning happening in the development sector, and came up with seven points as follows:

Kishun Ji: A True Hero

Kishun Ji’s unexpected death left a void in Nepali politics that could never be filled. It is not sufficient to say that he was one of the few main leaders who led the process of transitioning Nepal from an absolute monarchy to a multi-party democracy.

Riposte to Army’s restructuring, right-sizing and reform rationalization

Gautam’s call for increasing inclusivity in NA too aims to mislead the audience. NA is a voluntary service and there is no policy or culture in NA to proscribe anyone based on caste, ethnicity, creed, or gender. In fact, NA has remained the most inclusive institution in Nepal since its inception.

Climate Change Effect on Health

Between 2030 and 2050, climate change is expected to cause approximately 250 thousand deaths per year from malnutrition, malaria, diarrhea, and heat stress.

Making a Constitutional Case for Climate Action

Published On: December 18, 2021 07:45 AM NPT By: Dr Atindra Dahal

The Nepali Congress should be able to find the ways of assuring speedy economic progress, supplant the nation from illusively hyped remittance-based economy to a self-generated sustainable economy, hit the problem of unemployment and make the party work in bringing significant changes to the daily lives of the people.

Tech Bipolarity: An Emerging Dynamics of Geo-Tech Interest

Published On: December 17, 2021 11:27 AM NPT By: GP Acharya

It can be estimated that the reciprocal growth competition between the US and China in all domains- economic, defense, technology and soft potentials- may have a similar pattern for the years to come that would help emerge them as a bipolar force of global politics, economy and technology. Yet, the concern is- who will win the battle, if they vow to counter or contain each other?

In Defense of Democratic Institutions

Published On: December 16, 2021 10:50 AM NPT By: Ambika P Joshi

When the judiciary, constitutional and regulatory bodies are turned into epicentres of corruption, run by nominees notorious for their malpractices or nominated through unconstitutional processes, there is nothing which makes us optimistic about a democratic polity.

Social Innovation for Nepal

Published On: December 13, 2021 07:31 AM NPT By: Rajesh Poudel

Target groups, beneficiaries or service seekers should be encouraged and engaged in all stages and processes of social innovation directly or indirectly including identification, design, implementation, and governance. They need to identify their problems and own the solutions.
