CHITWAN, June 28: A car with the registration no. Ba 14 Cha has been badly damaged after a mound of earth above caved in and fell onto the vehicle along Mugling-Narayangadh road section on Monday night.

According to Shiva Khanal, engineer of road construction project, the accident took place while the car was heading for Narayangadh from Mugling at Panch Kilo at 11 pm yesterday.

“The passengers, however, were safe as they were taken to a safe area after noticing some stones falling from the cliff above. A big mound of earth above crumbled and fell down onto the vehicle after few minutes,” sadi Khanal.

The Mungling-Narayangadh road stretch remained blocked for about 10 hours on Monday. Landslides have posed risks to passengers after a project started to make the road two-lane.

Over 1000 vehicles ply along the Kathmandu-Pokhara road on daily basis, which is the main highway connecting east and west parts of Nepal.
