Host Sharanamati opens with win

JHAPA, Dec 6:  Host Sharanamanti Football Club has kicked off the first edition of the Sharanamanti Gold Cup with a win on Monday.

In the inauguration match held at the Janata Secondary School’s ground in Sharanamati, host registered 3-2 victory on penalties over Shantinagar Football Club, Sunsari. The first match of the tournament was pushed to the penalties after both side scored played 1-1 draw in the regular playing time. Gajendra Tamli, Prashant Magar and Anish Chapagain converted the penalties for host Sharanamati while Bikash Thulung and Laxman Chaudhary failed to utilize the penalty.  

Similarly, only Umesh Rai and Jiwan Dhami converted the shots for Shantinagar while Kiran Rai, Umesh Karki and Dipesh Thapa Magar’s shots were wasted. Earlier Sharanamati had took lead in the 25th minute after Shantinagar’s captain Kiran Rai scored own goal. Shantinagar found the equalizer in the 52nd minute with Saujan Yakhha’s goal.

Sharanamati’s goalkeeper Yogesh Prasain was declared man-of-the-match. Jhapa XI and Morang XI will vie in the second match of the tournament on Tuesday. Tournament has seen the participation of the eight clubs from Nepal and India vying for the first prize of Rs 101,111. Similarly the runner-up of the tournament will be given Rs 61,111.
