KATHMANDU, Dec 6: If you visit Kalanki in the Capital City, you will no longer see the overhead bridge that was built for predestinations to cross the busy road. 

The overhead bridge has been demolished to construct an underpass as a part of the Ring Road expansion drive. Probably after one and a half years, the construction of the 800 meters long underpass will conclude. The underpass will extend from Bafal to Khasibazaar. 

“Work is in a full swing with an aim of completing the underpass within July 2018,” Director of Ring Road Development Project, Gyanendra Kumar Jha told Republica Online, “After the underpass is constructed, vehicles travelling to and from Balkhu-Swoyambhu won’t need to stop at Kalanki.”

Pedestrians won’t be allowed to cross the road from the underpass. They have to use an overhead bridge or a zebra cross.  

The Ring Road expansion drive started with an aid of Chinese Yuan 512 million (approx Rs 5 billion). As per the project, 10.5 kilometers stretch of Ring Road from Kalanki to Koteshwor will be upgraded to 10 lanes. There will be a footpath and a cycle track alongside the road.  The road section will have three overhead bridges and four bridges over rivers.
