Hoax news and clouded reality

It is safe to say that we live in the age of social networking as various platforms have enabled us to live in a global village, connecting everyone through the Internet.

It takes a second to reach news at our hands without even moving an inch. This is all comfortable but the impact of social media has been largely misjudged and misused to a state that it seems hard to trust the same information that we were so grateful to have received in first place.

There are “Internet Hoax” and “Clickbaits.” The very essence of the words would be lies and rumors you spread to make your content interesting. This means it is very difficult to filter what information is real and what is just a figment of reality to mislead the world for a moment or two. We see incidents where a certain blog on social media captivates the world.

During the devastating Earthquake of April 2015, there were numerous news and information on social media predicting earthquakes to hit on a certain day which was totally fabricated but still terrified a large population.

Facebook was recently accused of not being more vigilant to filter out such fake news which impacted the US presidential election. Mark Zuckerberg had to assure Facebook’s efforts to minimize the reach of hoax news.
