KATHMANDU, June 28: The Legislature-Parliament meeting has been postponed until 11:00 am on Wednesday.

The meeting was postponed after major political parties failed to forge consensus over the issue of providing a lump sum of Rs 200,000 to earthquake survivors. The meeting called for 3:00 pm on Tuesday was put off till 5:30 pm, citing special reason.

A notice issued by the Parliament Secretariat stated that the House meeting was postponed till 11:00 am on Wednesday due to special reason.

CPN (UML) lawmaker Gangalal Tuladhar said that the meeting was postponed after the taskforce comprising leaders of major political parties failed to forge consensus regarding resumption of House proceeding.

A meeting is now taking place at Parliament Building, New Baneshwor, to forge consensus for the same. The main opposition party, Nepali Congress, has been obstructing House for the past few days demanding a lump sum of Rs 200,000 to quake survivors.

The CPN Maoist Centre has put forth a new proposal of providing a total of Rs 300,000 to quake survivors in order to convince both NC and CPN (UML) where Rs 200,000 would be provided immediately and Rs 100,000 in installment.

CPN Maoist Centre leader Krisna Bahadur Mahara had put forth the proposal in the taskforce meeting but the CPN (UML) has been saying that grant assistance could not been provided in a lump sum against the agreement signed by NC-led government with donor agencies. RSS
