GORKHA, Dec 15: Road projects have received the major chunk of budget from Constituency Infrastructure Development Program (CIDP) allocated for Gorkha district.

Of the 25 infrastructure programs for Constituency No. 1, 19 are road projects. The program has allocated Rs 40 million for Ghyalchowk, Siurenitar, Gyamireghat, Ithar, Bhumlichowk and Thumka road projects. Similarly, Rs 1- 1.5 million each have been allocated for another 18 projects.

Each constituency gets Rs 30 million under CIDP. Of the amount, Rs 20 million has been allocated for different road projects in Constituency No. 1. Remaining budget has been earmarked for drinking water projects, electrification campaign and construction of public buildings, among others.

Similarly, major chunk of budget in Constituency No. 3 has been allocated to build or repair roads and walking trails. A meeting held recently under the leadership of lawmaker Cham Bahadur Tamu has selected 25 projects. “

"Most of the budget has been allocated to maintain walking trails as people in northern part of the district do not have access to ro”d," Gurung said, adding that Rs 12 million has been allocated for maintenance of road and walking trails. Similarly, Rs 10 million has been allocated for rural electrification campaign. He added that a total of Rs 9 million has been allocated for five electrification projects.

Under CIDP, a lawmaker can select a project worth Rs 4 million and 24 projects worth a minimum of Rs 1 million each. The projects, however, must have been approved by respective village and district councils.

Hari Bahadur Ghale, district chairman of Nepali Congress, said the provision of selecting at least 24 projects was making the program ineffective.
