15 organizations awarded for innovative effort in climate change adaptation

KATHMANDU, Dec 16: Various 15 organizations of Nepal have been awarded with cash prize for their innovative effort in the field of climate change adaptation.

Minister for Population and Environment Jay Dev Joshi awarded the organizations with cash prize of 10,000 Pound which accounts to be Rs 1.3 million, amid a function in Kathmandu on Friday.

The Adaptation at Scale Prize has been rewarded for innovative solutions to scale-up climate change adaptation in Nepal from the Ideas to Impact program funded by the UK Department for International Development (DFID) and managed by IMC Worldwide.

Out of 59 organizations working on community and private sector had applied for the prize program, only 15 of them made it to the final list. Community Development and Advocacy Forum Nepal (CDAF Nepal), Youth Acting for Change Nepal (YAC Nepal), Manahari Development Institute Nepal (MDI Nepal), Mutual Support Center, National Disaster Risk Reduction Center (NDRRC), Center for Rural Technology Nepal (CRT Nepal), Ithaka Institute for Climate Financing, Care Nepal, Namsaling Community Development Center, CEAPRED Nepal, Machapuchare Development Organization, Practical Action South Asia, ANSAB Nepal, Dalit Welfare Organization (DWO) and Human Dev and Environment Concern Society Nepal among the award winning organizations.

Team leader of the Prize Program Purushottam Man Pradhan said that the prize is intended to contribute to building and strengthening local Climate Change adaptation innovation capabilities.

Representative of Ideas to Impact Jonathan Slater, briefing about the selection process of the award winning organization, said that he was impressed with the initiatives taken by Nepali organizations in the field.
