KATHMANDU, Jan 2: The Department of Railways (DoR) has extended the deadline for a global tender by seven days for the feasibility study of the Kathmandu-Birgunj Electric Railway Line.

The department had called for the global tender on November 29 with a 31-day deadline.

Senior Divisional Engineer at DoR , Prakash Upadhya, said that the deadline was extended at the request of foreign companies.

The DoR extended the deadline issuing a notice today.

Upadhyay said that it was necessary to construct the Kathmandu-Birgunj Railway to connect Birgunj and Rasuwagadhi with the rail networks.

He further said that the selected companies should complete the study within six months.

Birgunj is a major trading point for Nepal as over 70 percent of its import and export are done through the border entry point.
