DOTI, Jan 17: The Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) is preparing to investigate into war-era cases in the far-western region by setting up its regional office in Dipayal of Doti.

As part of establishing the office in Dipayal, the commission has begun field study. The regional office, according to officials of the commission, will be established there as a part of their policy to set up such offices in all seven provinces.

"We are here to collect details of the physical infrastructures and to see whether it is possible to set up an office in Doti," said Gopal Prasad Rijal, joint-secretary of the Commission, "We are holding discussions with the chiefs of various offices in the district, civil society leaders, legal experts and right activists."

Rijal said the Commission will take decision based on the conclusion of the discussions. Following an inspection, the commission said the government buildings were not available for setting up the office. "So we may have to rent private premises. The victims should feel comfortable to be in the building and it should be safe as well," said Rijal.

So far, the commission has not done anything other than collecting complaints from the conflict victims. More than 58,000 cases of rights violations have been registered at the commission. Of them, 10528 cases are from Province 7.
