House endorses Bill on Election Offences and Punishment, 2016

KATHMANDU, Jan 30: The Legislature-Parliament meeting on Monday endorsed the Bill on Election Offences and Punishment, 2016 on Monday.

Earlier, Speaker Onsari Gharti had announced cancellation of the agenda to endorse the bill after Home Minister Bimalendra Nidhi did not turn up on time. 

The agenda of the meeting was to endorse this bill at 1:30 pm in the Parliament today.

The next meeting was called for 2:30 pm to endorse the same bill. Minister  Nidhi arrived at 2 pm. The rescheduled meeting endorsed the bill. 

The House meeting lasted for 45 minutes including both zero and special hours before it resumed at 2:30 pm to endorser the bill.

With this endorsement, three election-related bills - the Bill Designed to Amend and Integrate Laws Related to the Works, Duties and Responsibilities of the Election Commission-2016 and the Bill Designed to Amend and Integrate Laws Related to the Voters List-2016, and the Bill on Election Offences and Punishment, 2016 - have been endorsed so far.

The remaining two bills - Bill to Amend and Integrate Laws Related to Local Election and Bill to Amend and Integrate Laws Related to Political Parties - are still under discussion at the State Affairs Sub Committee.
