KATHMANDU, Feb 13: Inspector General of the Police (IGP) Upendra Kanta Aryal has retired on Monday.

IGP Aryal gave a short speech before bidding adieu to his colleagues amidst a program at the Nepal Police Headquarters in Naxal this evening.

He had to retire without handing over the charge to his successor.

On Sunday morning, the Cabinet meeting had decided to appoint Jaya Bahdaur Chand as the IGP.  But Supreme Court issued a stay order not to execute the government’s decision yesterday afternoon.

Following the court's order, the government is yet to assign the acting chief of the Nepal Police.

Aryal had become IGP on November 11, 2013.
