KATHMANDU, Feb 15: Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Home Affairs Bimalendra Nidhi directed chiefs of the security agencies to make necessary security arrangements for the upcoming elections of Free Student Unions (FSU) in campuses.

Home Minister Nidhi summoned chiefs of three security agencies under the ministry as well as chief district officers (CDOs) of three districts in Kathmandu valley, Tribhuvan University officials and campus chiefs in Kathmandu valley to discuss the FSU election scheduled for February 25.

According to Nidhi's secretariat, Home Minister informed security chiefs that government has been discussing the FSU election at the political level, including with Madhes-based parties.

During the meeting, some of the campus chiefs suggested to the Home Minister and TU officials to defer the election as they have been facing security challenges. However, Nidhi argued that deferring scheduled election would not be appropriate in terms of politics and academic calendar.
