Army Staff and Command College to include civil servants in advanced training

TOKHA, Feb 28: The Nepalese Army has conducted advanced training on national security targeting the top notch civil servants at the policy-making level of some ministries and their subordinate bodies. 

The 10-day advanced training was inaugurated at the Army Command and Staff College at Shivapuri today. Taking part in the training are 18 officials including the First Class officers of the Nepalese Army, Nepal Police, the Armed Police Force and the National Investigation Department as well as some Under Secretaries in the civil service working at the Department of Electricity Development and the National Planning Commission. 

The advanced training on national security will hold deliberations on the law and order, environment conservation, security of development projects and maintaining coordination in mitigation of natural disasters, and forming a common understanding for carrying out works in that connection. The discussions would be focused on nationality, national independence and sovereignty. 

Inaugurating the training, Chief of the Army Staff Rajendra Chhetri said at present countries around the world are facing many traditional as well as non-traditional security threats affecting the nation's economy, social harmony and ultimately threatening to national security. 

"In modern times each country strives to maintain its independence, sovereignty, dignity and has some stake in the international arena,' he added. 

He asserted that the national security is important for all countries, irrespective of their size and location. 

Defense Secretary Shreedhar Sapkota said the forms of security challenges have also changed in the present world and the security challenge of one country becomes a matter of concern for all. 

College Director Major General Devendra Meghasi, highlighting the objectives of the training, said the training has been organized with the objective of forging a common understanding among the bodies which have a common concern on national interest and concern so that it would be easier to carry out the related works. 

Forty individuals have been graduating from the College in one academic session.

The college runs 45-week Master level course which is required for promotion to higher rank in the Army. The College is a center of attraction for officer cadets of the armed forces of different countries.
So far 834 officers have graduated from the college. 

Similarly, 53 army officers from 10 countries have completed the course in a span of seven years.

Officers from India, China, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Malaysia, South Korea, UK and America have been coming in increasing numbers to join the course. RSS
