KATHMANDU, Feb 28: Madhesi Students Forum has urged Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal to halt the ongoing Free Students Union elections on Tuesday.

Handing a memorandum over to Prime Minister Dahal at his official residence, Baluwatar, the Madhesi students said that the entire Madhes has been up in arms since the government announced the date for local polls.

The students have claimed that the elections could not be held without concluding the amendment bill registered in the Parliament.

They have also made public the agitation programs in protest of the announcement of the local polls.

"With most of the colleges in Tarai and the Kathmandu Valley padlocked, arson attack and demonstration against the local elections, holding elections under the cover of security personnel would constitute a mockery of democratic norms and values," reads the memorandum.

“We have urged the prime minister to immediately postpone the FSU elections because the time is inappropriate,” said Madhesi student leader Ranjit Nispaksha.
