Landslide clearing-up begins in Righa

BAGLUNG, March 8: Police have started clearing up the landslide-obstructed road section of the mid-hill highway at Manewa of Righa from Monday, according to the Area Police Office, Galkot.

“As the debris was still falling, we were not able to start the work on Sunday. So, we began the work at 2 pm on Monday,” said Arjun Dhwaj Adhikari, Inspector at the police office. 

Though the landslide had stopped from Sunday evening, the clearing-up could be started only after Monday afternoon, according to Adhikari. “A nut of the dozer needed to be replaced. That took time,” he said.

As told by Adhikari it will take two more days to resume the vehicular movement on the road section. Two dozers from the Daram Khola Hydro Energy Limited have been mobilized for clearing up the landslide debris. 

Chief District Officer Bhagirath Pandey informed Republica that two more dozers will be added from Tuesday. “Even though there have been speculations being made that it will take four to five more days to resume the  transportation, we will try our best to do it as soon possible” Pandey said. 

For the past two days, locals are staying in darkness as the electricity poles of the central transmission grid have fallen down. The overflowing Daram River has also made some villagers worried.

The cleanup for the landslide obstructed road section of mid-hill highway   in Manewa of Righa has begun from Sunday as informed by the Area Police office, Galkot.

“As the dry land was still falling, we were not able to start the cleanup on Sunday so we begun the work from 2 pm on Monday,” said Arjun Dhwaj Adhikari, Inspector at Area police office. Though the flow of land had stopped from Sunday evening but the cleanup was started only after Monday afternoon, according to Adhikari. “Knot of the dozer was broken, so it took time to change the knot,” he said.

As informed by Adhikari it will take two more days to resume the vehicular movement in the road section. Two dozers from highway and Daram Khola Hydro energy Limited have been mobilized for cleaning the landslide debris. Locals informed that there was a controversy going on about who will start the cleanup which delayed the work. “At first, Highway and Hydro power project were pushing each other for the work but later they both agreed to coordinate each other for the cleanup,” said Kamal Poudel, Chief of Radio Sarathi, Kharbang.
