EC starts printing ballot-papers for local polls

KATHMANDU, March 19: Election Commission has started printing the ballot-papers for the upcoming local level elections from Sunday.

Chief Election Commissioner Ayodhi Prasad Yadav said that the preparatory works for the election has gained momentum and the EC is focusing to start election related works in district after completing preparatory works at the central level.

The EC held a press conference on Sunday and informed that the 113 political parties are registered in the constitutional body for the local level election. According to CEC Yadav, 47 political parties are registered in Kathmandu district while only six are registered in Manang. "We'll print the ballot-papers as per the party registered in the concerned district," said Yadav.

Yadav reiterated that the local level election will take place on slated date, May 14 and added that the security situation has strengthened in recent days. He informed that more than 21,000 polling stations are set and the commission has started distributing voters' ID cards.

"We are making logistical arrangements now and the EC will soon give momentum to the election related works focusing on the districts," said Yadav.
