6th Nepal Int'l Trade Fair records Rs 200 million worth of transactions

KATHMANDU, March 21: The 6th Nepal International Trade Fair concluded in Kathmandu on Monday, recording Rs transactions worth more than Rs 200 million.

The five-day event was organized by Federation of Nepalese Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI), with the aim of promoting Nepali products in domestic as well as international market. The expo drew more than 200,000 visitors, a statement issued by FNCCI on Monday said.

“The expo was successful in terms of visitor turnout and transactions. As many as 500 applications were received from jobseekers in the job fair organized on the sidelines of the fair,” the statement added.

The major attraction of the expo was herbs and herbal products and agricultural products of high Himalayan regions.

According to FNCCI, the fair was successful also because the cabinet has formed a committee under Commerce Minister Romi Gaucha Thakali to build an international standard exhibition venue in the country.

Speaking at the inaugural ceremony on March 16, the organizers had requested Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal to do the needful for building an exhibition venue of international standard in the country.

The expo showcased handicraft, information technology, agricultural, pharmaceutical, metal, leather, wooden and fashion products, as well as construction materials, among others, according to the organizers. The expo had a total of 340 stalls including 35 stalls of herbal products and 70 stalls of agricultural products.

According to the organizers, the expo has promoted Nepali products and also helped the entrepreneurs to learn new technologies from foreign exhibitors. “Events like these also help Nepali entrepreneurs to establish business contacts with potential buyers, suppliers and technology providers for enhancing their business,” the statement added.

Exhibitors from countries like China, Bangladesh, Pakistan and Thailand, among others, also participated in the event. While China had 85 stalls in the expo, Bangladesh, Pakistan and Bangladesh 50, 20 and 10 stalls respectively. Similarly, Malaysia and Thailand have five stalls each.

The 7th edition of the fair will be organized in March next year. According to the organizers, around 200 stalls have already been booked for the next expo.
