MUGU, March 23: Police personnel stationed at Pulu village of Karmarong municipality in Mugu district are struggling for a shelter in lack of proper building for the police station.

According to Ram Singh Bista, in-charge of the Pulu-based police station, they have a building to stay but the condition of the house is really pathetic. They cannot sleep during the cold nights of winter and rainy days due to seepage of water from the dilapidated tin roof.

More than a dozen police personnel stay in the building. They all lament that it is not easy for them to spend nights even in summer due to the fear of snakes.

According to DSP Sharada Prasad Chaudhary of the District Police Office, Mugu, except the buildings of the District Police Office, Area Police Office of Sorukot and Border Police Post of Mugu, all other police stations are run from rented houses. “We are trying our best to upgrade them,” SDP Chaudhary said.

Police personnel lament that they are living a miserable life in Pulu. “It takes four to five hours for us to visit any other village and there is no proper facility of electricity and communication,” Bista laments.

Police personnel of Pulu say that they try to stop the leakage by covering the roof with plastic sheets but that won't last long due to wind.

Three years ago, the local community had declared to provide a piece of public land to the police station but that has yet to happen due to legal hurdles in transferring land ownership certificate.
