High level probe commission in Mahottari

GAUSHALA, March 26: The High – Level Probe Commission has arrived in Mahottari to interrogate and collect complaints on those who were killed during past uprisings and the latest upheaval in Madhes. 

The Commission led by former Justice Girish Chandra Lal on Saturday launched the fact finding mission on Tarai, Madhes and Tharuhat uprisings. It will be questioning the victims of the uprisings in Mahottari today. 

The incidents of killing, vandalism, arson and human rights violations in course of the agitations preceding the promulgation of the new constitution and after in Madhes and Tharuhat will be investigated, said Commission's Chairman Lal. 

The Commission will hold onsite inspection to take stock of the problems of the victim families. 

The onsite visits will continue until March 27 and during the course probe will be conducted on incidents of human rights violations in Mahottari; evidences and complaints will be collected and discussions held with concerned stakeholders, Lal said. 

Lal added that 1300 complaints have already been registered with hundreds more in the pipeline. 

The members of the martyrs' families, injured cadres and political party leaders affiliated with the United Democratic Madhesi Front (UDMF) have inquired into the commission's working method. They have demanded action against those found guilty. 

The members of the commission include Surya Prasad Koirala, Navaraj Dhakal, Sukh Chandra Jha and Sujan Lokchan among others.RSS
