Zimbabwe interested in working with Nepal: Minister

KATHMANDU, March 27: Zimbabwe has shown interest to help Nepal for the development of micro, small and cottage industries.

Zimbabwe’s Minister for Development of Micro, Small and Cottage Industry, S G G Nyoni, during a meeting with officials of the Ministry of Industry, showed interest to work together for the development of industries of both the countries. 

Nyoni is in Kathmandu on a five-day visit. 

During her meeting with Minister for Industry Nabindra Raj Joshi, Nyoni said that Zimbabwe wants to enhance mutual coordination with Nepal on different sectors.

“Zimbabwe seeks a mutual coordination on policy that Nepal has adopted for the development of micro industries, programs Nepal have brought to connect micro industries with tourism sector, and programs to expand financial services to micro entrepreneurs. Nepal has developed significantly on development of trekking sector of the country,” she said, adding, “The Zimbabwean government wants a mutual coordination with Nepal to develop trekking sector of Zimbabwe.”

She also said that Nepal can learn from Zimbabwe’s expertise in mining sector.
Minister Nyoni said Zimbabwe wants to move ahead jointly by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Nepal.

Likewise, Minister Joshi said Nepal can work with Zimbabwe for the development of micro, small and medium industries. “Nepal has kept the development of micro, small and medium industries in high priority. These industries will increase rural employment which will help in poverty alleviation,” he said, adding that the government was working to bring attractive policies to attract foreign investments in the country. “There is a great opportunity for foreign investors to in Nepal,” Joshi added.

Minister for State for Industry Kanchan Chandra Badhe, Secretary of the Ministry of Industry Shanker Prasad Koirala and under secretaries of the ministry were present in the meeting. Likewise, Evelyn Ndlovu, secretary of the Minister for Development of Micro, Small and Cottage Industry and other officials of the Government of Zimbabwe participated in the meeting.
