Discard any doubt over election: DPM Thapa

PHALEBAS, April 3: Deputy Prime Minister and Minister and Minister for Federal Affairs and Local Development, Kamal Thapa, today said the local elections will be held in a single phase across the country on May 14. 

During a meeting with the Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) cadres this morning at Kushma Bazaar, the district headquarters of Parbat, Minister Thapa said the election atmosphere has already suffused the country and urged to discard any doubt if elections will be held. He added that elections will be held in a single go on May 14 in Province no 7. 

Minister Thapa also spoke of efforts with Madhes-based parties nearing the final stages. He said the local level elections had remained as the RPP agenda since long. 

Thapa said he joined the government to hold the local elections and urged the cadres not to vacillate if elections will not take place. 

Stating that three – tier elections must be held within January 21, 2018, Minister Thapa said the local elections will pave the way for the two other elections. He also said the constitution amendment cannot take place in the prevailing scenario. 

He urged the cadres to actively engage in local level election to reinstate the party's major agendas that the Election Commission tried to defeat through conspiracy. 

Thapa instructed the cadres to visit the houses of every Nepali to spread the RPP's campaign before nominating the candidates for the election. 

The DPM said the people were receiving service and facilities through 744 local levels with the implementation of the constitution and they would get a direct sense of the presence of the government after the local elections. 

Noting that the country was still being manipulated by foreign forces, Thapa stressed on the need to strengthen the RPP to break the syndicate of the three major parties. RSS
