Proposal to deploy Nepal Army for local polls awaits President's approval

KATHMANDU, April 20: The proposal regarding the deployment of Nepali Army for the local polls slated for May 14 has been sent to the Office of the President for final endorsement after the  meeting of the Council of Ministers recently held approved it following the recommendation of the Security Council.

 Assistant Defense Spokesperson Uttam Prasad Nagila confirmed that the proposal to deploy Nepal Army for security reason in the upcoming locals has reached the Office of the President.  According to him, after the President who is the supreme commander of Nepal Army, the Defense Ministry will instruct Nepal Army to move out of Barrack with a view to ensuring security during the local election period.

According to the Defense Ministry, Nepal Army personnel will be mobilized at sensitive areas. They will also be mobilized in areas bordering on India with a view to preempting possible anti-election activities.   

According to the plan proposed by the Home Ministry, Nepal Army will take the responsibility of protecting Election Offices during the election period, which Nepal Police and Armed Police Force have been taking and Nepal Police and Armed Police Force will be mobilized in the polling areas for security purpose.
