DHANGADHI, April 21: Election fever has gripped Dhangadhi following the door-to-door visit of leaders and cadres of various political parties.

As the members of political parties have intensified their visit to the election constituencies, this has excited the locals. Though the political parties are yet to field their candidates for various posts, the cadres and prospective candidates have already started wooing the voters.

According to the locals, promotional events and other activities have given a festive mood to the locality. “Cadres of political parties visit our home almost every single day. This has also raised hopes that elections might just happen this time,” said Uma Bogati of Dhangadhi Ward No 5.

Locals had to suffer since a long time in the absence of local representatives. So, they are desperately waiting to elect their representatives who can address their grievances. “We had to suffer a lot as there was no one to solve our problems for a long time. But the announcement of local elections has raised a glimmer of hope for change,” said Pramod Pathak, another local.

Since the announcement of the local elections has met with opposition from a certain section, those in favor of the polls are praying for the success of the elections. They are keeping their fingers crossed, hoping that the elections won't be postponed nor do they want any obstructions. People have been pressurizing the parties to make the elections possible at any cost.  The locals have warned of hitting the streets if the elections are not held on the stipulated date.

Cadres of various political parties have informed that the locals are very much excited for the elections,  which has encouraged them too. In the past, the locals had been lamenting about the irregularities of local authorities and the troubles they had to undergo in the absence of responsible people's representatives.

Rana Bahadur Chand, district secretary of CPN-UML who is also a prospective candidate for the post of mayor of Dhangadhi Sub-metropolitan City, informed that the party has been conducting mass gatherings almost every single day. He further informed that they are also holding debates on whom to elect.

“After so much of anticipation, people won't forgive if the elections are not conducted on the stipulated date,” said Chand.
