Result-oriented works carried out in every sector: PM Dahal

KATHMANDU, April 24: Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal has said the incumbent government has been successful in carrying out result-oriented works in every sector. 

In his address to the eighth Senate of Patan Academy of Health Sciences (PAHS) here today, the Prime Minister who also serves as the Academy Chancellor said works were undertaken from a new dimension to increase people's access to healthcare facilities. 

In the sector of health, the government had been successful in carrying out some new works due to initiation of the Health Minister. Of late, health and science academies had started showing their mobility, the Prime Minister added. He was of the view of addressing problems facing health and science academies through regular discussions and cooperation with the Health Ministry. 

Calling upon the PAHS officials to work in the sector of research as well, he suggested them for a promise that their efforts would bring positive change to people's life. 

Also speaking on the occasion, Health Minister and PAHS pro-chancellor Gagan Kumar Thapa said the government was working keeping the sensitivity of citizen's health in the center. 

He vowed to bring issues raised by the PAHS under discussions. The PAHS has voiced for amendments to some health rules. A total of 14 proposals relating to academic, policy-level and administrative reforms and human resource management were presented before the Senate seeking discussions and decisions. 

The Senate, pointing out the need of revising the rules relating to employees' facilities and conditions, economic administration and student enrollment and scholarship framed under the PAHS Act (2008), decided to move ahead regarding the proposals of setting up a basket fund for the establishment of scholarship fund and running educational programmes available in the Lalitpur Nursing Campus under the PAHS umbrella. 

The Senate decided to nominate PAHS former director Pawan Kumar Sharma as the member in the PAHS Service Commission. 

Likewise, Prof Dr Neelam Adhikari and Prof Dr Sharad Raj Onta are among those nominated for the vacant posts of the PAHS academic council for their special contribution to the health sector. Similarly, the Senate has nominated Meen Bahadur Gurung (among from its donors) who is the coordinator of Bhatbhateni Super Market, as the Senate member. Gurung sponsors two seats in MBBS programme under the PAHS every year.

On the occasion, PAHS vice-chancellor presented the progress report and future action plan. It had last fiscal year earned over Rs 1.22 billion while expenditure records exceeded Rs 1.23 billion. The Senate has proposed a budget of Rs 1.3 billion for the current fiscal year. RSS
