NRCS to spend Rs 7.72 billion in reconstruction

KATHMANDU, April 25: Nepal Red Cross Society (NRCS) has built 568 houses out of the seven thousand houses damaged by the earthquake that it was responsible for reconstructing. 

The National Reconstruction Authority (NRA) and NRCS on May 23, 2016 had reached an agreement in which the NRCS was entrusted with the responsibility of constructing 7000 private homes of earthquake victims in 11 Village Development Committees in Nuwakot, Ramechhap, Sindhuli, Okhaldhunga, Rasuwa, Kavrepalanchok and Makwanpur districts among the 14 earthquake most-affected districts. 
NRCS president Sanjib Thapa, speaking in a programme here today, said so far 6375 beneficiaries have taken the first installment, 802 beneficiaries the second installment and 568 beneficiaries the third installment of money for house construction. 
The NRCS had run the earthquake response programme in Gorkha, Dhading, Rasuwa, Nuwakot, Kathmandu, Lalitpur, Bhaktapur, Dolakha, Sindhupalchok, Makwanpur, Sindhuli, Okhaldhunga, Kavrepalanchok and Ramechhap among the 14- worst affected districts with the financial and technical assistance of the Red Cross Societies of various countries. 
Similarly, Thapa shared that NRCS has imparted masonry training to 4,200 people for constructing earthquake-resistant houses and technical knowledge on building safe shelters to around 44 thousand people in the 14 districts. 
According to him, NRCS has also expressed commitment to provide seven billion 719 million 930 thousand rupees to the beneficiaries for reconstruction and integrated programme. RSS
