59 shelters caught fire in Banke in past 10 months

KOHALPUR, April 27: In the past ten months, as many as 59 houses and sheds caught fire in Banke district, shows the statistics maintained by the District Police Office (DPO).

Among the shelters which caught fire, 47 were houses while 12 were sheds. Three people lost their lives while six domestic cattle were killed and another 11 injured in fire over the period.

“This has caused a total loss of about Rs 40 million,” Superintendent of Police (SP) at the DPO, Tek Prasad Rai told Republica. 

Among those fire incidents, three took place in Janaki Rural Municipality, six in Duduwa Rural Municipality, four in Khajura Rural Municipality, nine in Baijanath Rural Municipality, four in Rapti Sonari Rural Municipality, seven in Narainapur Rural Municipality, one in Kohalpur Municipality, and 19 in Nepalgunj Sub-metropolitan City. 

“Many of those incidents took place due to negligence and lack of preparedness.” said SP Rai.
