Gold for Neer and Ganga

KATHMANDU, July 13: Neer Bikram Devkota of Tribhuvan University (TU) and Ganga Bista of Far-western University (FWU) on Tuesday claimed badminton singles title in men's and women's sections respectively in the Prime Minister Cup University-level National Sports being held in the capital.

Neer edged past his own university opponent Jeevan Acharya 15-21, 21-15, 21-13, while Ganga defeated Sonia Gurung of Agriculture and Forestry University (AFU) in straight sets of 21-8, 21-3 at Satdobato, Lalitpur.

In men's doubles event, the pair of Neer and Jeevan claimed gold beating the pair of Rikesh Shrestha and Bhupendra Giri of Kathmandu University (KU) 21-9, 21-17.

Similarly, the pair of Asmita Subedi and Sonia of AFU won the women's doubles title by recording a 19-21, 21-13, 21-16 win over the pair of Ganga and Hema Joshi of FWU.

Three straight wins for TU in volleyball
TU recorded three wins in a row in men's volleyball as it defeated KU 25-18, 25-14, 25-13 and Purbanchal University (PU) 25-12, 25-12, 25-18 on Tuesday at the Covered-hall of National Sports Council, Tripureshwar. TU had defeated FWU in its first match on Monday.

Similarly, Mid-western University beat PU 25-18, 25-9, 25-12, while FWU recorded 25-11, 25-22, 25-12 win over KU.

TT gold for Sujan and Deepika
Sujan Panta and Deepika Shrestha of KU won table tennis singles titles in men's and women's sections respectively. Sujan thrashed Prabesh Neupane of PU in 3-1 sets, while Deepika edged past Rejisha Koteja of KU.

In the doubles event, the pair of Abin Prajapati and Sujan of KU beat the pair of Mahesh Dhakal and Gyanendra Bhujel of TU in 3-1 sets to win the men's title, while the pair of Rejisha and Deepika of KU recorded 3-1 win over Khem Kumari Dhungana and Sarita Tamang of TU.

TU leading chess event
TU is leading the points table with 10 points after the conclusion of the fifth round of chess event at Satdobato.  

TU recorded 4-0 win over AFU in the fourth round and also recorded 4-0 win over FWU in the fifth round.

Similarly, KU is in the second position with five points as it recorded 3-1 win over Nepal Sanskrit University in the fifth round. Likewise, AFU is third with five points as it played 2-2 draw against PU.

TU, KU set up basketball title clash 
TU and KU have set the final clash in men's basketball. Both the teams have maintained their unbeaten run in the four-team contest being held in the round robin league format. The teams will lock horns on Wednesday in the match which will decide the winner. On Tuesday, TU edged past AFU 70-40 and KU thumped PU 80-35 respectively during their penultimate match played at the semi covered hall of the National Sports Council in Tripureshwar, Kathmandu on Tuesday.
