7 policemen injured in clash with Chand-led CPN cadres

SURKHET, May 6: Seven policemen have sustained injuries after they were attacked by the cadres of CPN led by Netra Bikram Chand.

 In the attack, a weapon of a policeman has also been damaged. One of those injured police personnel has been taken to Manma, the district headquarters of Kalikot.

The police were injured in the attack carried out by CPN cadres while they were heading to Puchchhegaun to control anti-polls activities in Rastakot Municipality.

A police team led by ASI Karna Bahadur Chand of Area Police Office, Syuna had been deployed to the area at 10 am Friday.                                                                                                 

According to police, the CPN cadres and locals attacked the police personnel with stones as soon as they reached the village.

ASI Chand sustained an eye injury in the attack. Chand along with other four police personnel are receiving treatment at a local hospital.  

A critically injured police constable has been brought to district hospital Manma for treatment.

The clashes took place after the policemen went to the village to arrest a Chand-led CPN cadre, DIG Bijaya Lal Kayastha, chief of  Mid-western Regional Police Office told  Republica Online.

“Some policemen sustained injuries and a weapon was broken down in the attack,” he said, adding, “Additional policemen have been deployed to the incident site.”

According to Bharat Bam alias ‘Ranabir’, a CPN politburo member, the locals attacked policemen after they tried to arrest a CPN cadre participating in a wedding ceremony.

“The wedding ceremony of CPN Central Committee member Karna Bhandari’s son was taking place. The clashes took place when the police arrived and tried to disrupt the wedding ceremony. A weapon held by police was also broken down,” he further said.
