DPO Chitwan intensifies surveillance for 87 people

CHITWAN, May 10: The District Police Office (DPO) Chitwan has classified people with a track-record of hooliganism in the past and intensified surveillance for them to avoid untoward incidents during the silent period of the election. 

According to Office Chief, Superintendent of Police Deepak Thapa, presently 87 people whose past activities were of concern to police are under scrutiny. 

The police have divided them in different categories like active in certain locality, protected, professional and criminal groups. Among them, one has been arrested earlier today. 

The Chitwan police earlier arrested 23 cadres of Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist) led by Netra Bikram Chand for indulging in anti-election activities and they are under the police control. 

As per the decision of the Election Commission, the election silence begins before the 48 hours of the day of election and will continue until the closing of the voting. The first-round of local level lections is taking place in 34 districts on May 14, Sunday. RSS
