Security stepped up in Bhaktapur as elections day nears

BHAKTAPUR, May 10: Chief District Officer (CDO) of Bhaktapur Dorna Pokharel has said that the security condition of the district has been beefed up in view of the local-level elections.

Speaking at an interaction organized by Rafat Sanchar Club on Wednesday CDO Pokharel said so. 

He further said that around 2,000 security personnel have been deployed taking the geographical condition of the district into consideration.

According to him, 1,100 civil servants have been already deployed in the polling centers to peacefully conduct the local elections.

On the elections day,  the security personnel will be kept so alert that they will reach the incident site within five minutes of the incident.

On May 14 (Sunday), the voting will begin at 7 am and end at 5 pm. The time will be extended in case the voters are found still lining up until 5 pm, said Pokharel.

The security arrangement will be effective until the vote count is over.

 Apart from Pokharel, chiefs of security agencies including Colonel Amrit Kaji Gurung of Bir Dal Battalion, who is also a member of the security committee, Bhaktapur District Police Chief SP Kiran Rana, chief of National Investigation Department (NID) Samir KC were present in the event.
