Nepali players steal limelight in India

KATHMANDU, May 23: Nepali taekwondo player Prabesh Pandit bagged gold medal and the best player award in the International Taekwondo Championship held recently in India.

Prabesh bagged gold in 45 kg category and silver in poomse event held at Amritsar. 

Another Nepali player Dipendra Bahadur Nepali also displayed good skills to secure gold in 63 kg weight category while he bagged bronze in poomse. 

Meanwhile, Sabbir Jung Rawal clinched gold medals in both poomse and 40 kg events. 

Likewise, Rahis Khan (68 kg) and Abbas Khan (52 kg) also won gold medals in their respective weight categories. Abbas also bagged gold in poomse. 

Meanwhile, Mohammad Umar Khan bagged gold for Nepal in 48 kg event while he settled for silver in poomse. Another Nepali player Ashish Subedi won gold in 36 kg event while he secured silver in poomse. 

Sagar Tamang (58 kg) and Shital Purja (51 kg) secured silver medals each while Shital also bagged silver in poomse event.

Other players to win silver medals for Nepal were Usman Karki (32 kg) and Prateek Pathak (28 kg). Both of them won bronze medals each in poomse. 

Mohammad Kalim Miyan, who participated only in poomse event, secured gold. 

In total, the Nepali players under the training of Chitwan District Taekwondo Committee Vice President Roshan Khan bagged 7 golds and 4 silvers in combat and 4 golds, 3 silvers and 2 bronzes in poomse.
