KATHMANDU, May 29: Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal has said that no force on this earth can derail the second phase of local elections.

Addressing the parliament in response of lawmakers' queries on the government's policy and programs on Sunday, Dahal urged all political parties not to doubt over the elections.

"No force on earth can stop or derail the upcoming second phase of local elections," said Dahal.

He further claimed that he decided to hold the local polls despite the chances of his party losing in the elections. "If I was worried about the status of my party, even the first phase of local polls would not have been held," he said.

Dahal urged the political parties not to take his government as caretaker government.

"This government hasn't neither faced any no confidence motion nor lost majority in the parliament. My resignation is a wise move for settling the problems of the country," said Dahal.

He also claimed that even opposition parties are in support of his government and urged not to resign without concluding second phase of local polls. "The opposition party should also thank to my government because the government created the environment for their victory holding the peaceful polls," said Dahal.

House passes policy and programs
Meanwhile the parliament meeting on Sunday passed the government policy and programs with majority votes.

Main opposition CPN-UML lawmakers remained neutral during the vote, while some fringe political parties voted against it. President Bidya Bhandari had presented the policy and programs of the government in the House on Thursday. But its endorsement had been delayed due to House obstruction from the opposition UML.

Government hasn't introduced major programs this year due to caretaker status of the government and election code of conduct.
