SINDHULI, May 30: Results of the first round of local polls have shattered the dreams of many candidates in Sindhuli who had resigned from their government jobs hoping to be elected as the new representative of their local units.

Many people had shown keen interest as well as excitement to file their candidacies in the local elections announced almost after two decades. As many as 21 teachers, civil servants and social mobilizers, had to quit their jobs in order to file their candidacies for various posts of local units. But for those who got defeated, the local elections of May 14 became a bitter experience.

The records maintained at the District Education Office (DEO) show that as many as 17 teachers had resigned in order to file their nominations for the post of chairperson and vice-chairperson of various municipalities, rural municipalities and wards.  Only six of them won the elections while for the rest it turned out to be a wrong decision.
According to the locals, many teachers are regretting their decision now. Neither they could secure a post nor can they return to their old jobs. 

However, Manju Devkota, deputy mayor of Kamalamai Municipality, Bal Kumari Adhikari Danuwar, deputy mayor of Dudhauli Municipality, Karsang Tamang, chairperson of Hariharpurgadhi Rural Municipality, Durga Devi Sunuwar, chief of Gyanglek Rural Municipality, Tek Bahadur Rajan Magar, chairperson of Fikal Rural Municipality ward-3 and Dinesh Kumar Ramauli, Cchairperson of Tinpatan Rural Municipality ward-5 were among the teachers who don't have to regret the decision of quitting their jobs.

Similarly, there were many civil servants who left their long-time jobs in order to file their candidacies for the first round of local elections. But unfortunately many of them failed to secure any position. Dinesh Adhikari Danuwar who was employed at Dudhauli Municipality left his job to file his nomination from the CPN (Maoist Centre) for the post of mayor. But unfortunately he was beaten by his opponents from CPN-UML and Neplai Congress and stood third in the race. Among three social mobilizers, Khadga Nepali was elected as the chairperson of ward -1 of Fikkal Rural Municipality and Ram Bahadur Thing as the chief of ward 11 of Kmalamai Rural Municipality.
