KHOTANG, June 19: A mother and her own daughter are running for the same post in the local level elections in the district.

Mother Manmaya BK and her daughter Anita BK have filed nomination for ward member in Barahapokhari Rural Municipality-3 in the upcoming local elections scheduled for June 28.

Manmaya is taking part in the elections representing Nepali Congress while Anita has filed her nomination from CPN (Maoist Center) under Dalit women category.

Even though there is a majority of Dalit community in ward No. 3, 4 and 5, NC and Maoist Center have picked mother and  daughter for the  same post due to the lack of influencial leaders.

“There are other Dalit members in the villages, too,” said President Magar, “but coincidentally mother and daughter were fielded for the same post due to their influence in the ward. Anita had got married in ward No. 5 which now falls in ward 3 following restructuring of the local units.

Similarly, office assistant and teacher have also filed their nomination for the same post in the coming local elections in Barahapokhari Rural Municipality-5.

Teacher Hari Kumar Rai and office assistant Faujdar Rai of the same school have filed nomination for the post of ward chairman from Maoist Center and CPN-UML respectively.
