IED blast at Maoist mayoral candidate's house

DHANGADHI, June 23:  An improvised explosive device (IED) went off in front of the house of Gokarna Bhatta, CPN (Maoist Center) mayoral candidate for Godawari Municipality of Kailali district.

According to the chief district officer of Kailali, Govinda Rijal, an IED was detonated at the rear part of the house at 3 am on Friday. The window panes of the ground floor of the house were shattered by the blast. 

Bhatta is the younger brother of Maoist leader Lekh Raj Bhatta. It has been learnt that former prime minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal had visited Lekh Raj's house in Attariya on Thursday night.

The security situation has been tightened in Dhangadhi and Attariya areas following the explosion. Rijal said they have launched a manhunt to nab those behind the blast.
