Strengthened monitoring mechanism to make election peaceful: CEC Yadav

KATHMANDU, June 23: Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Dr. Ayodhee Prasad Yadav has said the Election Commission has made monitoring arrangements at various levels, as it seeks to conduct the upcoming second-phase of local-level elections in a free, impartial and peaceful atmosphere. 

Taking part in a face-to-face programme at the Reporters' Club Nepal here Friday, the CEC said he had found that the election atmosphere in the aftermath of the filing of nominations was highly encouraging and exuberant. 

The election employees were already at the districts having polling stations in farther areas along with election materials in view of the upcoming local-level elections, he added. "All election candidates have been given the election symbols. The distribution of voters' identity cards will start from June 25 and during this process, voters will be imparted education on the right voting process." 

Suggesting the political parties and their candidates to conduct election publicity campaign being confined to the parameters of the election code of conduct, CEC Dr Yadav urged the voters to cast their ballots without any fear as he assured that the government had put in place reliable security mechanism in view of the election. 

"The second phase of election is expected to set a new record due to massive participation of the political parties and voters alike," said Dr Yadav. 

The June 28's election is taking place at 334 local units of 35 districts of province no 1, 5 and 7. There are altogether 6,4320,765 registered voters across these province who will be electing a total of 15,038 people's representatives through the upcoming poll. 

The 334 local units comprise one metropolitan city, seven Sub-Metropolis, 111 municipalities, 215 rural municipalities. 

There are altogether 4,581 polling stations and 8,364 polling centers determined in the provinces where the local level election is taking place in 19 years. 

Permit has been issued to 6,717 observers while 66,900 employees will be deployed for facilitation of the election. RSS
