NHRC discusses security issues in relation to election

KATHMANDU, June 25: The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) held a discussion with the high level security officials on how smooth the security situation was for the June 28 election of the local level for the second round. 

During the discussion, NHRC surfaced the issues as obstruction to NHRC observers in various places, security persons not allowed adequate rest but given additional burden and the activities of the temporary security persons in the first round of the election. 

On the occasion, NHRC Chairman Anup Raj Sharma said the security agencies had major role to make the election more peaceful, fear-free and human rights friendly. He urged the security bodies to function flawlessly for the well management of the security situation during the election. 

Home Secretary Lok Darshan Regmi said the security bodies were committed to the flawless security relating to the local level election. The security arrangement has been categorized to work in tandem, he informed, expressing the commitment that the Ministry was striving not to repeat the mistakes of the first round of security arrangement. 

The discussion was attended by NHRC Chairman Sharma, Spokesperson Mohna Ansari, Member Govind Sharma Poudel and Secretary Bed Bhattarai, Inspector General of Nepal Police, Prakash Aryal, Inspector General of the Armed Police Force, Singha Bahadur Shrestha, and Chief of the National Investigation Department, Dilipraj Regmi.
