1,016 poll officers deployed in Khotang for elections

KHOTANG, June 26: As many as 1,016 poll officers have been deployed in two municipalities and eight rural municipalities of Khotang as to make necessary preparations and arrangements for the local elections which will take place after two days. 

All the poll officers have headed toward the polling centers along with ballot boxes and other election materials. With the objective of conducting the second round of local elections in a peaceful and systematic manner, poll officers have reached their respective polling stations, informed Election Officer Dinesh Khatri. In Khotang, as many as 136 polling booths and 173 polling centers have been set up for the June 28 elections. Poll officers were given election training of a week. After reaching the election constituencies, poll officers will teach and guide the locals about the voting process and other things to keep in mind while casting votes.

On Thursday, election materials were sent to Khotehang, Jantedhunga, Ainselukharka and Barahapokhari rural municipalities. The following day, election materials were also sent to Halesi Tuwachung Municipality and Sakela Rural Municipality. Finally on Saturday, election materials were also sent to Kepilasgadhi, Diprung and Lamidanda rural municipalities. As informed by the poll officers, two kinds of ballot boxes with the capacity of holding 1100 and 1150 ballot papers have been sent to the polling centers.

In some parts of the district, heavy rainfall posed problems for the poll officers. “Election officers have been mobilized in all places except in some wards of the district headquarters Diktel. But they will be sent soon,” said Khatri. 

In order to conduct the elections in a peaceful manner, an additional 432 Nepal Police personnel and 100 Armed Police Force soldiers have deployed in the district. There are 101,544 voters in Khotang. Altogether 12 political parties have registered their names for the elections.
