4 elderly die at polling centers

PALPA, June 28: As many as four elderly people died while casting their votes in the second phase of the local elections on Wednesday. Among them, two died apparently due to cardiac arrest while they were in the queue to cast their votes in Palpa district.

The deceased are Krishna Kumari Kumal, 62, of Baganaskali Rural Municipality-1 and Purna Chandra Bhattarai, 84, of ward six of the same municipality, informed Tilak Paudel, returning officer of Bagnaskali Rural Municipality.

Kumal died in the queue at the polling center at Shree Ram Primary School. She suddenly collapsed and died on the way to the local health post. Bhattarai is said to have died of heart attack while in the queue. Both of them died at around 8 am. 

Similarly, an elderly died while he was casting vote at Madi polling center in Gudipur Belka Municipality-3. The deceased has been identified as Shree Lal Chaudhary, 60, according to police.

According to Giri Lal Chaudhary, a teacher, Shree Lal who entered the polling booth with a ballot paper did not return for a long time. "When we went inside the booth to see, he had already died," said Giri Lal. "Cardiac arrest could be the cause of his death."

Likewise, a voter breathed his last while returning home after casting his vote in Ilam district on the same day. The deceased is Chetnath Acharya of Rong Rural Municipality in Ilam. He died while undergoing treatment at a Birtamod hospital.
