Bomb terror in various districts on Election Day

KATHMANDU, June 29: Various places in provinces 1, 5, and 7 were terrorized by bomb scare as well as blasts on Wednesday as the country was observing the second phase of local elections. Such incidents were reported in Ilam, Khotang and Udayapur districts. 

At a time when voting was taking place, a bomb went off at a polling center set up at Adarsha Adharbhut School located in Ward-7 of Ilam Municipality. Luckily, no human casualties have been reported yet. 

“The bomb explosion caused no human casualty,” Ilam's Chief District Officer Janakraj Dahal informed. “The bomb went off at 10:20 am. But it caused no harm,” he added. 

According to him, a probe into the incident is underway. The voting resumed shortly afterward. Nepal Army personnel are set to observe the incident site. 

Likewise, an unidentified group had planted a sutali bomb nearby a polling center at Dubekol of Khotang district. A bomb disposal squad of Nepal Army successfully defused the bomb at 6:55 am, preventing potential loss of lives and properties. 

In Udayapur district, police arrested three cadres of Communist Party of Nepal led by Netra Bikram Chand with bombs from a polling station on the same day.

According to District Police Office, Udayapur, three cadres were arrested with two bombs along with logistics from Raumata Rural Municipality -7 along the Gaighat-Katari alternative road section Monday night.

The arrested are Tilak Tamang, 32, of Triyuga Municipality-7, Bharat Basnet, 40, of Trinapa-15 and Dhruba Khadka, 45, of Raumata-7, said SP Nagar Bahadur KC. Tamang and Basnet are district committee members while Khadka is a general member of the party.

Similarly, police also seized a motorcycle, Ba 21 Pa 3770, a catapult, donation receipt among others from the incident site. Earlier, two of Chand's cadres had been arrested from Gaighat.
