PALPA, July 4: In Palpa, 425 newly-elected local level representatives from 10 local units have taken oath amid a special function on Monday.

Ashok Kumar Shahi, newly elected mayor of Tansen Municipality, expressed his desire to develop the municipality as a tourism hub. 

“I am taking the responsibility of the municipality amid possibilities and challenges so I have decided to work keeping the demands of the public in consideration,” said Shahi. He further informed that locals are seeking for a corruption-free municipality so it is very much important to eliminate irregularities and misconducts from local bodies. 

“At first I will seek measures to manage pollution, sewage, drainage, roads and drinking water in order to develop Tansen as a tourist destination,” Shahi added.
   
Similarly, Raman Bahadur Thapa, newly elected mayor of Rampur Municipality expressed his view to develop his place as a business hub.  As stated by him, it is very much important for the representatives to recognize the prospects and possibilities of the municipality before formulating any development plans. 

“I can't let the valuable vote of people go to waste, so I am determined to make this municipality prosperous,” said Thapa, adding, “First of all, it is very important for me to win the hearts of the locals and for that I need to work hard.”

Likewise, Krishna Prasad Basyal, newly-elected chairperson of Bagnashkali Rural Municipality said that he will at first help the people from poor and marginalized communities to get their identity cards so that they can get all government services. He even assured the locals that he won't use his government privileges for personal use but for the welfare of people. On the other hand, Om Bahadur Gharti, chairperson of Tinau Rural Municipality stressed on Chure conservation in order to increase the income of the rural municipality. Meanwhile, chairperson of Mathagadhi Rural Municipality, Santosh Thapa, wants to develop the agricultural sector.

Chief Election Officer (CEO) of Palpa Bharat Mani Khanal handed over the responsibilities to the newly-elected mayor and deputy mayor of Tansen Municipality after the oath-taking ceremony. Likewise, all the other representatives took oaths in front of their respective election officers.  

Speaking at the program, CEO Khanal expressed his happiness for the peaceful and systematic elections. “Locals have lots of expectations from the new representatives so it is very important for them to fulfill all the promises they made before the elections,” he said.

As many as 1,300 candidates had filled their nominations in the local elections from two municipalities and eight rural municipalities of the district. There were altogether 162,253 eligible voters in the district out of which 72.74 percent voters participated in the elections.
