ILAM, July 21: Nepali Congress (NC) Ilam Town Committee has come up with a proposal to make Ilam municipality a Sub-Metropolitan City by expanding its geographical area.

A meeting of the NC Town Committee on Wednesday put forth a proposal to integrate eight VDCs of northern part with existing Ilam municipality to make it a greater Sub-Metropolitan City.

The proposal was to integrate Ilam municipality, Barbote, Sumbek, Sulubung, Mabu, Maimajhuwa, Maipokhari, Puwamajhuwa and Sakhejung VDC to make a greater Ilam City, said NC Ilam Town Committee President Hom Basnet. 

The population of the sub-metropolis upon integration of all these VDCs will reach 49,142. The Congress shared that the proposal to make Ilam a sub-metropolis was floated based on the geography, population, available resources and means, convenience for service providers and symmetric residence. 

NC came up with the new proposal when a discussion on local body restructuring was underway. RSS
