KATHMANDU, July 21: A meeting between Speaker Onsari Gharti and top leaders of three major political parties, held as a part of a last ditch effort to forge consensus among the parties, ended without yielding results on Thursday afternoon.

The meeting, that continued for more than an hour, discussed different alternatives, but failed to reach a conclusion.

The leaders and the Speaker will sit-in at 1 pm today in another attempt to hammer out a consensus, according to Press Advisor to the Speaker, Babin Sharma.

At the meeting that was held at the office of the Speaker in Singha Durbar, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, who is also the chairman of the CPN-UML, Maoist Center Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal and Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba dwelled on the agendas to be discussed in the Parliament today.

The political parties have been deeply polarized after the Speaker prioritized the no-confidence motion for discussion over the scheduled financial bills related to the budget in the Parliament.

The ruling alliance has been maintaining that the financial bills related to the budget should be should be discussed prior to the no-confidence motion while NC-CPN (Maoist Center) alliance is reiterating that the no-confidence motion should be discussed first.

UML has already warned that it would halt the Parliament if the financial bills related to the budget were not discussed first.
