KATHMANDU, July 24: At a time when the dispute between India and China over Doklam border stand-off is escalating, this topic has entered the parliament.

CPN-UML lawmaker Yuvaraj Gyawali raised this issue in the House meeting on Monday. He stressed the need to come up with a unified view over the Doklam issue, which recently has become a bone of contention between India and China.

Referring to the ongoing war of words between the two neighbors over the Doklam issue, Gyawali urged the government to come up with an equilibrium and single view over  the issue.

“Our Nepal is like a buffer zone which is surrounded by China and India. If the emerging power nations clash with each other, it will have a massive impact, causing thousand times more losses than the one that 1962 war did. We should not keep mum on this issue,” said Gyawali.

“We should not keep mum on this issue. All the political parties have to come up with a single view on this issue following discussions. We should take the initiative before it is too late. Otherwise the situation might go haywire beyond control,” he said.

He underscored the need to seek a solution to this problem through peaceful means, adding that United States of America has also showed concerns over this issue.

India and China are at odds over Doklam border issue which lies between China and Bhutan.

India has recently stationed its troops in Doklam after China started constructing roads along its bordering territory.

China has taken strong exception to the station of the Indian troops on the border area and has warned that the troops be retreated.
