Demonstration in capital in support of Dr KC (with photos)

KATHMANDU, July 29: People from various quarters including political parties and organizations have staged a protest rally in support of senior orthopedic surgeon Dr Govinda KC in the capital on Saturday.

Leaders from newly emerged alternative Bibeksheel Sajha Party Rabindra Mishra, Ujwal Bahadur Thapa, doctors, medical students, physically challenged people among others took part in the protest rally.

The rally which started at Maitighar Mandala, passed through Babar Mahal, Bijuli Bazaar before it converged into a corner meeting at Baneshwar.

The demonstrators with placards shouted slogans - ‘Endorse Medical Education Bill at Once,’ ‘Fulfill Demands of Dr Govinda KC Immediately,’ ‘What Are the 601 Lawmakers Doing While the Mafias Are Picketing the Country?’ - against the government and medical colleges during the rally.

Dr KC, who is the professor at the Institute of Medicine (IoM), has been stating fast-unto-death since the last six days demanding endorsement of Medical Education Bill which is now sub-judice in parliament.

This is KC’s 11th fast-unto-death.

Following Dr KC’s first fast-unto-death in 2069 BS, the government had formed a high level committee led by the then Vice Chancellor of Tribhuvan University Kedar Bhakta Mathema. 

A medical education bill was registered in parliament to address KC’s demands based on the Mathema report.
