Dang sees 2 flood deaths, 300 locals displaced

DANG, Aug 12:  Flooding triggered by heavy rainfall since Friday has claimed two lives and displaced 300 locals in Dang district.

According to the District Administration Office, a woman in Tulsipur Sub-metropolitan City-13 and a man in ward 4 died in the flood. Bhagwati Rana, a local, died in flooding along the Tuhi Khola in Tulsipur-13  while she was trying to move her cattle to a safer place after torrential rains. Next day, her body was found hanging from a tree near her house.

Similarly, Nar Bahadur Rawat, a local of  Jitpur in Tulsipur, died while trying to cross the Betani River. Flooding has left two injured in Lamahi Municipality. One of them has been taken to Nepalgunj for treatment while the other is being treated in a local facility. 

"Flooding has thrown  normal life out of gear and we already have  two dead," said Chief District Officer Gajendra Bahadur Shrestha. According to him, more than 300 locals have been displaced and the number is likely to rise as more details  come in.

In Dangisharan Rural Municipality alone, 262 locals were displaced. Likewise, in Rihar of Lamahi Municipality 54  were displaced. As many as 80 houses have been damaged completely. Many of the houses have been submerged and some were swept away.

 Flooding  along Tuhi Khola  swept away 19 houses in Ambapur, Damargaun and Majghatuwa and destroyed 18 houses in Dangisharan Rural Municipality, informed locals.

More than 40 houses in Babai and four in Motipur of Tulsipur Sub-Metropolitan City have been submerged by flooding along the Babai. Altogether 35 houses in Lamahi Municipality were destroyed. As per  details provided by Area Police Office, Amilia, 11houses in Rihar, eight in Jalkundi, eight in Amilia and six in Jalkundi have been destroyed by floodwater.Much agricultural land has also been flooded and crops damaged.  

A road section in Ghorahi, Tulsipur has collapsed due to incessant rain, obstructing vehicular movement and stranding passengers. Settlements along the river are at high risk. This has left the locals scared.
